The mission of The Chiron Academy is to provide a rigorous and nurturing academic setting for students who need additional assistance in developing the hero within. A true hero is able to critically think, overcome obstacles, work as a team, and develop physical and emotional resilience to set a standard for lifetime progression. The five pillars of The Chiron Academy are: Academic Excellence, Heroic Behavior, Emotional Resilience, Physical Fitness, and Community Involvement.
We specialize in helping students push through barriers of behavior to capitalize on their neuro-advantages. Students who have, or may have, a diagnosis of ADD/ADHD, ODD, High Functioning Autism, Anxiety, Depression or other related disorders, have the ability to excel in an appropriate academic environment. We assist our students in understanding their potential and have high expectations for them to gain skills to live an autonomous and fulfilling life.
The Chiron Academy does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, in any of its activities or operations. These activities include, but are not limited to, hiring and firing of staff, selection of volunteers and vendors, and provision of services. We are committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment.
The goal of The Chiron Academy is to provide a condensed and rigorous academic setting to make academic growth through the school year. We are focused on providing daily and weekly academic goals and track data that will ensure academic success. Our premier teaching staff uses a number of diagnostic software (i-ready, ALEKS, inspire Science, StudySync) to fill in academic weaknesses and focus on the strengths of each child. Our ratio of kids to staff at minimum is 5:1. This ensures academic accountability and explicit instruction for students and staff to meet and achieve state standards in reading, mathematics, language arts, educational technology, social studies, fine arts, science and many other electives. The students utilize a laptops to track academic growth and assist with advancing their technology skills appropriately. We accept students from 2nd grade to 12th Grade.
When the body is healthy, there are no barriers to what a hero can do. Our students will develop grit and resilience to get back up after failures. Because of the strengths of our kids, we will be participating in a variety of activities including: Rock Climbing, Woodshop, Swimming, Hiking/mountaineering, Ninja Courses/Parkour, and a number of different exercises.
We utilize a strength-based approach when approaching behavioral challenges. We use neurodiversity as a strength to learn how to be in control of behavior at all times and in all places. Students who exhibit Hyperactivity, Inattention, Distraction, Oppositional or Defiant behaviors, and Aggression can be taught how to use their super hero skills appropriately. There is no shaming of these behaviors, rather praising these children when they use behavioral techniques appropriately. We focus on providing immediate feedback to negative behaviors and track data on shaping negative behaviors into positive and pro-social behaviors. Our staff is fully trained in Crisis Prevention Interventions (CPI) and are highly skilled in de-escalation techniques. We implement a time-out/time-in procedure to work through more intense behaviors. If the students have met their individual goals throughout the week, they will have the opportunity to go on amazing field trips each Friday. If a child has not met their goal for the week, the group will assist the child to make reparation to be able to participate in future field trips.
The students learn how to appropriately engage peers, family members, and community members through group contingencies. The students are rewarded for succeeding as a group and also set personal goals for implementing effective communication techniques.
Identifying internal experiences are fundamental to achieving personal and group goals. Direct instruction on how to handle difficult situations will be provided daily through group discussion and through age appropriate social skills. Our students will learn to be resilient and have a growth mindset. Focusing on the successes of the day and documenting their successes will provide insight to how powerful our students are.
Students are eager to come to school in the morning. We open our doors at 8:45 AM. School ends at 3:30 PM. How do we spend our day?
